Peer support works by using the lived experience, knowledge and skills of group participants to offer support and understanding to each other in a planned, structured and informative way. This helps develop skills, understanding, confidence and self-awareness of those who share similar experiences. Our live peer support group chats offer help and advice when you need it most. Here at Recovery Radio, we are working hard to get this new project up and running as soon as possible. Our new internet radio station is created by a former addict in recovery, with help from friends and acquaintances who bring knowledge and expertise from a variety of backgrounds.
Our goal is to guide, help, inspire and support those who want to create a better life for themselves. Working within the CHIME framework, our team is on hand to signpost, inform and empower individuals to choose a path that best suits their needs. We accomplish this by sharing experience and hope, creating a sense of community and individual identity, bringing meaning to the lives of all our listeners.
So far, much of the work has focused on getting the website functional so that we can at least signpost visitors to some relevant help. We are still in the process of assembling a team of knowledgeable people that can offer shared experiences, hope and understanding. We would welcome more volunteers so if you feel that you might be able to help in any way then please contact:
Further updates on our progress will appear here as they become available.
The CHIME framework was designed in 2011 by Leamy et al and is commonly used in mental health recovery settings. It identifies 5 key areas thought to be needed by everyone to live a balanced life (see fig. 1). These are called CHIME factors.
Figure 1
These 5 CHIME factors are broad categories into which all models of recovery from addiction or mental health issues can be placed. Rather than following a single process, these factors can be tailored to fit an individual's personal needs.
